This man is the reason I fought with my anxiety, Mr. Nasir “Nas” Jones. When I found out he was coming to my city I had to go. Florida makes headlines for a lot of malarky but we're on the news for something good this time. We got this man to bless our city with his gifts as the headliner for the Gasparilla Music Festival.
Gasparilla Music Festival is an annual concert that supports music education. It’s held in downtown Tampa at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Kiley Gardens Park on October 1-3, featuring musical acts from a wide variety of genres on several stages and cuisine from the region’s top restaurants. As part of its mission to support and promote music and education, the organization is involved throughout the year in several initiatives including providing scholarships and instruments to music students. They have had past acts like Pharacyde, Erykah Badu, Ghostface Killah, and Nas.

He performed all his classics and his new joints which was something a real hip hop head could appreciate. Being at that concert made me realize why I fell in love with hip hop in the first place. There were all types of people just out vibing and having a good time without their phones. There was clear distinction of age though, some festivals it's a bunch of drunk teenagers which can be a deterrence. This event wasn't like that everyone was grown and having fun. This concert is for my hippie hip hop lovers, if you like alternative hip-hop this festival is for you. I found some acts that I never heard of which are always cool. Being in Florida doesn’t hurt either thing is cheap and the weather is phenomenal.
The new act I found is called Pusha Preme. He’s opened for Saint Jhn and Gunna just to name a few. Bro has really been putting in work, he just got his single on tht billboard 100 chart as an indie artist. Which is major because he’s doing all this without a label. It’s always refreshing to see an artist when they’re first starting out. Then to watch their career blossom to its full potential. I remember I saw Ne-Yo before he was famous, a lot of people don’t know that he plays four instruments. That’s why I watch all the acts you’ll never know who you might see.

Watching hip hop acts perform with bands do something to me. I know it means nothing to others for me it amplifies their talent and versatility. It proves their not basic and they're a fluid artist, which is something I can appreciate. That's the reason why I love Nas so much, he can rap over studio beats, with orchestras and freestyle. It's not too many artists who are that versatile, whenever artists try to challenge themselves like that their sound changes dramatically and it sounds awful. With Mr. Jones he creates timeless masterpieces that's healed hoods for years. I know there is truth to what I'm saying because he's been in the game twenty years strong years without no reality shows endorsements.
Hope to see you at the next festival,
XoXo
