Released in April of this year, “Facetime” is Benjamin Scott’s latest hit single, a track which features another up-and-coming talent in Musa Messiah. Together with impressive directing by @shotbynaf, who has worked with many known artists like Ski Mask the Slump God, this collaboration of New Jersey rappers on a track that can only be described as a raw, fast-paced trap smash hit, reminiscent of Takeshi69’s recent work with an undeniable underground rap vibe, is monumental towards New Jersey’s rap scene becoming mainstream.
Lyrics like: “I got pills, lick and weed. I’m Wily Wonka to the street” bring a unique charm to the hard-hitting lyrics, a trick many rising rappers seem to have down, and the fans are craving for. After listening to “Facetime” a couple dozen times, I couldn’t help but look into the Soundcloud of these artists. With a series of other bangers like “Bossin” and “GONE” available on Soundcloud, it’s only time before an artist from the Garden States makes it mainstream.
